English Language and Literature (New Curriculum)
Unit 1: Context and Meaning
Section A: Questions requiring short and restricted responses. Also a comparative essay based on one poem from the WJEC anthology and one unseen poem. Section B: Extended writing response question (a choice of one of two) - creative literary or non-fiction writing.
Unit 2: Belonging - Task A
Task A: A written essay based on your class novel. You need to learn linguistic and literary approaches to demonstrate knowledge and understanding of the whole text. The theme of BELONGING is present when discussing characters and setting.
Unit 2: Belonging Task B
Task B: A creative non-fiction writing response informed by ideas and opinions gained from your reading of texts from Task A.
Unit 3: Influence and Power
Task A: A group discussion of 6-10 minutes based on the texts studied within a theme selected from WJEC’s non-fiction anthology. Task B: A creative non-fiction writing response informed by ideas and opinions gained from your reading of texts from Task A.
Unit 4A: Motivations (Single Award)
Section A: Questions requiring short answers and one essay that analyses your text selected for study. Section B: Extended response question (one choice from two), with creative writing.
Unit 4B: Motivations (Double Award)
Section A: Questions requiring short answers and one essay that analyses your text selected for study. Section B: Extended response question (one choice from two), with creative writing.
Unit 5: Continuity and Change (Double Award)
Task A: An extended response based on the whole of a Shakespeare play. Task B: A paired discussion based on the study of one prescribed 1600-1900 poem from the WJEC anthology.
Unit 6: Connections (Double Award)
Section A: A mix of of questions requiring objective, short and restrictive responses and longer analytical, comparative, and evaluative responses which explore the connections between the WJEC non-fiction anthology text(s) and one unseen text. Section B: Extended Response Question (choice of one from two). Non-fiction writing.
